Blue Spring State Park
I'm sad to say that I haven't been to Blue Spring State Park since I was about 3 years old. When you have children you want to share experiences with them and Jen and I wanted to bring our son Jonah to see the manatees up close. As we drove in I recognized a large area as scrub habitat and said to Jen that I bet they have scrub jays. Read more… I wanted to stop and take a few minutes to see if I spotted one but we were in a line of cars and finding a parking space would prove challenging. I was so impressed with how well the state park system has developed the amenities at Blue Spring but maintained the natural beauty. Of course we appreciate the ease of accessibility for strollers along the boardwalk. Jen and I both work and have hectic schedules so this visit to Blue Spring State Park was a wonderful Sunday outing allowing us to relax amongst nature. I do want to come back and take advantage of all there is to do here like scuba diving and snorkeling in the natural spring boil and I know Jonah would love to take a river boat tour and see the alligators. They also have canoe and kayak rentals for exploring the St. Johns River. And, how many places around here offer crystal clear, clean fresh water to swim in? It will be so refreshing in the summer. I look around at all the families here and realized that this is the perfect safe and reasonably priced place to spend a day or an afternoon and experience "old Florida". Next time when we come, we'll plan on bringing a picnic lunch. I hope I can make it back soon because I know the manatees won't be here much longer, especially in the large numbers like they are now. ![]() Josh Wagner Daytona Beach, FL ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
