St. Johns River Blueways

Paddle Our “River of Lakes”

Via kayak or canoe, the scenic St. Johns River Blueways make for an intimate encounter with natural beauty and wildlife. Canoe and kayak rentals are available at most parks throughout the county, with access to area rivers and lakes.
If you are not familiar with the mighty St. Johns River, please check out this video from the St. Johns River Alliance which shows how this American Heritage River (one of only 14 in the country) flows through changing landscapes, including our own. Native Americans called it “Welaka,” which means “River of Lakes.” Our local scenic byway, River of Lakes Heritage Corridor, was named to show its historical connection to the St. Johns.
