RELAX in West VolusiaBlue Spring State Park, DeLeon Springs State Park and Hontoon Island State Park are a great place to take a walk on the quiet side and enjoy wildlife and native birds in their natural habitat. See river otters, alligators, manatees, osprey, bald eagles, sandhill cranes, or possibly a swimming black bear. The parks are less crowded this time of year so it's the perfect time to visit.
Each park has nature trails where you can enjoy hiking or biking on miles of nature trails. Kayaks and canoes are available for rent if you want to explore your wild side. Bring a picnic and let the kids play in the playground equipment while you relax and take in the beauty of it all. Make your own pancakes in the Old Spanish Sugarmill Restaurant at DeLeon Springs State Park.
In the winter months, Blue Spring State Park is home to hundreds of West Indian Manatees and as such is a designated manatee refuge therefore they do not allow any water activities in the Spring or Spring Run. On any given day, you may see up to 200 manatees frolicking and swimming in the 72 degree waters of Blue Spring State Park. People come from near and far to witness this amazing sight. See below for the manatee cam that shows them frolicking with each other. If you're staying in Daytona Beach or another surrounding community, come for the day or better yet plan for a weekend getaway in West Volusia and experience the manatees and the beauty of nature firsthand.
