Conveniently located between Orlando and Daytona Beach, the West Volusia County Region encompasses 14 distinct communities along the St. Johns River, I-4 and U.S. 17/17-92. A variety of unique accommodations and an eclectic mix of attractions, restaurants, shops and boutiques make this a popular spot for visitors from all over the world. The area is known for its diversity of vacation experiences, including houseboating, manatee viewing and bird watching, skydiving, golfing, fishing, touring authentic Florida heritage sites and art museums, a number of family friendly activities, and enjoying endless outdoor recreation on the St. Johns River. The Daytona and New Smyrna area beaches and Orlando theme parks are just minutes away. Whether you are looking for an affordable family vacation or you want to experience nature at it's finest ; there is something for everyone. Blue Spring State Park, DeLeon Springs State Park and Hontoon Island State Park are a great place to take a walk on the quiet side and enjoy wildlife and native birds in their natural habitat. See river otters, alligators, manatees, osprey, bald eagles, sandhill cranes, or possibly a swimming black bear. The parks are less crowded this time of year so it's the perfect time to visit.
There's no need to go far because West Volusia is well within reach, but a world apart!
Each park has nature trails where you can enjoy hiking or biking on miles of nature trails. Kayaks and canoes are available for rent if you want to explore your wild side. Bring a picnic and let the kids play in the playground equipment while you relax and take in the beauty of it all. Make your own pancakes at your table in the Old Spanish Sugarmill Restaurant at DeLeon Springs State Park. Yummy!!
The West Volusia County region also has two multi-use trail systems; the Spring-to-Spring Trail and the East Central Regional Rail Trail. While neither are completed; they still offer miles of recreational enjoyment as they traverse through shaded tree canopies, open prairie, cypress swamp and magnificent vistas of pristine lakes and the St. Johns River.
The Spring-to-Spring Trail currently has approximately 15 miles of completed trail segments and includes five trailheads that have been built for your convenience at DeBary Hall Historic Site, Gemini Springs Park, Lake Monroe Park, Lake Beresford Park, Blue Spring State Park and along Grand Avenue in Glenwood.
