The Paintings of John Mellencamp
opened to the public at The Museum of Art - DeLand at 100 N. Woodland Blvd. in downtown DeLand on Friday, October 10, 2014. The exhibition features some 40 oil and mixed media paintings and will remain on view at the Museum until December 28, 2014. Inspired largely by German Expressionists Max Beckmann and Otto Dix, and in keeping with his award-winning music, John Mellencamp's work is personal and distinctive. He trained at the Art Students League in New York with David Leffel and later with Jan Royce in Indianapolis. While his subject matter is often autobiographical, he uses considerable skill as a painter to express his strong socio-political point of view.
